Tell an attack apart from an anomaly.
Vela tells a cyber attack on a spacecraft apart from space weather and ordinary malfunction.
A satellite anomaly looks the same whether the cause is the sun or an adversary.
Operators see the symptom, not the cause. A bus voltage sags, a reaction wheel behaves oddly, telemetry gaps appear. Space weather produces those signatures. So does an attacker. The decision that matters — escalate or wait — depends on a discrimination nobody has been able to make quickly.
Vela sits over that problem. It works from data you already collect and returns a verdict an operator can act on, with the reasoning attached. It runs on the ground, with an onboard option for operators who want detection closer to the vehicle. The mechanism is covered under agreement.
Attack, or the sun
Separates hostile activity from environmental effects — the discrimination that decides whether an anomaly gets an operator or a shrug.
Works from what you already collect
No new sensing programme. It reads the data your ground segment already has.
A verdict, with its reasoning
Operators get a call they can act on and the reasoning behind it, not a score with no explanation.
On the ground, or closer in
Runs in your ground segment, with an onboard option for operators who want detection nearer the vehicle.
TRL 4, validated in a laboratory environment.
Nothing in this line has flown and it holds no authority to operate. We would rather you hear that here than three meetings in.
It runs hosted, on your own infrastructure, or fully disconnected. Anything more specific than that — how it works, what it integrates with, what it has been measured at — comes with an agreement rather than a web page.
Released on request, not published.
There is a measured record behind every claim on this page — what was tested, in what environment, what it caught and what it missed. We hand it over once there is an agreement in place rather than posting it here, so it travels with its caveats attached and we know who holds which revision.
Ask and we will tell you what exists for Vela and how quickly we can get it to you.
Tell us what you are trying to protect.
We will tell you whether Vela is ready for it. If it is not, we will say so and point you at the part of the platform that is.
